Chapter 73: Bharata Decides to Bring Rāma Back

कौसल्या च सुमित्रा च पुत्रशोकाभिपीडिते।
दुष्करं यदि जीवेतां प्राप्य त्वां जननीं मम॥
kausalyā ca sumitrā ca putra-śokābhipīḍite
duṣkaraṁ yadi jīvetāṁ prāpya tvāṁ jananīṁ mama
kausalyā ca = Kausalyā-devī; sumitrā = Sumitrā-devī; ca = and; putra-śoka-abhipīḍite = would be greatly tormented in sorrow about their sons; duṣkaram = they would do so with difficulty; yadi = if at all; jīvetām = they live; prāpya = having attained [as their co-wife]; tvām = you; jananīm = mother; mama = My.
Kausalyā-devī and Sumitrā-devī would be greatly tormented in sorrow about their sons. Having attained you, My mother, [as their co-wife], if at all they live, they would do so with difficulty.
