Chapter 73: Bharata Decides to Bring Rāma Back
Text 2.73.19
न मे विकाङ्क्षा जायेत त्यक्तुं त्वां पापनिश्चयाम्।
यदि रामस्य नावेक्षा त्वयि स्यान्मातृवत्सदा॥
na me vikāṅkṣā jāyeta tyaktuṁ tvāṁ pāpa-niścayām
yadi rāmasya nāvekṣā tvayi syān mātṛvat sadā
na me vikāṅkṣā jāyeta = I would not hesitate; tyaktum = to reject; tvām = you; pāpa-niścayām = of sinful determination; yadi = if; rāmasya na avekṣā tvayi syāt = Rāma did not respectfully and devotionally consider you; mātṛvat = to be like His mother; sadā = always.
I would not hesitate to reject you of sinful determination if Rāma did not always respectfully and devotionally consider you to be like His mother.
Bharata does not want to reject His mother Kaikeyī because Rāma respects her as His mother [and would be displeased by Bharata’s act].
