Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 73: Bharata Decides to Bring Rāma Back
Text 2.73.27
एष त्विदानीमेवाहमप्रियार्थं तवानघम्।
निवर्तयिष्यामि वनाद्भ्रातरं स्वजनप्रियम्॥
eṣa tv idānīm evāham apriyārthaṁ tavānagham
nivartayiṣyāmi vanād bhrātaraṁ sva-jana-priyam
eṣaḥ tu idānīm eva = right now; aham = I; apriya-artham = [just] to displease; tava = you; anagham = sinless; nivartayiṣyāmi = will [go and] bring back; vanāt = from the forest; bhrātaram = My brother; sva-jana-priyam = so dear to His relatives.
Right now, I will [go and] bring back My sinless brother, so dear to His relatives, from the forest to displease you.
Bharata was not just interested in not doing what Kaikeyī wanted. He was also interested in doing what she did not want [at all]. Therefore, He spoke this verse [because] she wanted to use Bharata to enjoy the kingdom.
