बलिषड्भागमुद्धृत्य नृपस्यारक्षतः प्रजाः।
अधर्मो योस्य सोऽस्यास्तु यस्यार्योऽनुमते गतः॥
bali-ṣaḍ-bhāgam uddhṛtya nṛpasyārakṣataḥ prajāḥ
adharmo yo ’sya so ’syāstu yasyāryo ’numate gataḥ
bali-ṣaṭ-bhāgam = one-sixth of [the citizens’ revenue] as tax 2; uddhṛtya = who extracts and; nṛpasya = king; arakṣataḥ = without affording care and security; prajāḥ = those citizens; adharmaḥ yaḥ = sinful reaction; asya = of a; saḥ = the; asya = to him; astu = may belong; yasya = whose; āryaḥ = the noble Rāma; anumate = with consent; gataḥ = has departed [to the forest].
May the sinful reaction of a king who extracts one-sixth of [the citizens’ revenue] as tax without affording those citizens care and security belong to him with whose consent the noble Rāma has departed [to the forest].
