Chapter 75: Bharata’s Conversation with Kausalyā-devī
Text 2.75.47

अपास्य मातृशुश्रूषामनर्थे सोऽवतिष्ठताम्।
दीर्घबाहुर्महावक्षा यस्यार्योऽनुमते गतः॥

apāsya mātṛ-śuśrūṣām anarthe so ’vatiṣṭhatām
dīrgha-bāhur mahā-vakṣā yasyāryo ’numate gataḥ

apāsya = by giving up; mātṛ-śuśrūṣām = service to his mother; anarthe = into adharma; saḥ = he; avatiṣṭhatām = may fall; dīrgha-bāhuḥ = the long-armed; mahā-vakṣāḥ = broad-chested; yasya = whose; āryaḥ = and noble Rāma; anumate = with consent; gataḥ = has departed [to the forest].

May he with whose consent the long-armed, broad-chested and noble Rāma has departed [to the forest] fall into adharma by giving up service to his mother.

GLOSS. This verse means: “May he who consents to the noble, long-armed and broad-chested Rāma’s departure [to the forest] give up serving his mother and fall into the disaster of serving his wife and so on.”
