Chapter 75: Bharata’s Conversation with Kausalyā-devī
Text 2.75.56

तृष्णार्तं सति पानीये विप्रलम्भेन योजयेत्।
लभेत तस्य यत्पापं यस्यार्योऽनुमते गतः॥

tṛṣṇārtaṁ sati pānīye vipralambhena yojayet
labheta tasya yat pāpaṁ yasyāryo ’numate gataḥ

tṛṣṇā-ārtam = with a thirsty person; sati pānīye = [even] when he has drinkable water at home; vipralambhena yojayet = deceitfully deals; labheta = may he attain; tasya = of one who; yat pāpam = the sinful reaction; yasya = whose; āryaḥ = noble Rāma; anumate = with consent; gataḥ = has departed [to the forest].

May he with whose consent noble Rāma has departed [to the forest] attain the sinful reaction of one who deceitfully deals with a thirsty person [even] when he has drinkable water at home.

“Deceitfully deals with” means “does not give [water] to.”
