Chapter 80: A Pathway for Bharata’s Journey is Constructed
Text 2.80.6
लता वल्लीश्च गुल्मांश्च स्थाणूनश्मन एव च।
जनास्ते चक्रिरे मार्गं छिन्दन्तो विविधान्द्रुमान्॥
latā vallīś ca gulmāṁś ca sthāṇūn aśmana eva ca
janās te cakrire mārgaṁ chindanto vividhān drumān
latāḥ = branches 4; vallīḥ ca = plants; gulmān ca = thickets; sthāṇūn = pegs 5; aśmanaḥ eva = by removing stones; ca = and; janāḥ te = the men; cakrire = prepared; mārgam = a road; chindantaḥ = by cutting down; vividhān = and a variety; drumān = of trees.
The men prepared a road by cutting down branches, plants, thickets, pegs and a variety of trees and by removing stones.
The branches and so on were those that had covered up the pathway.
