Chapter 80: A Pathway for Bharata’s Journey is Constructed

निर्जलेषु च देशेषु खानयामासुरुत्तमान्।
उदपानान्बहुविधान्वेदिकापरिमण्डितान्॥
nirjaleṣu ca deśeṣu khānayām āsur uttamān
udapānān bahu-vidhān vedikā-parimaṇḍitān
nirjaleṣu ca = without water; deśeṣu = in places; khānayām āsuḥ = they dug; uttamān = excellent; udapānān = wells 8; bahu-vidhān = of several kinds; vedikā-parimaṇḍitān = decorated with raised platforms
In places without water, they dug excellent wells of several kinds decorated with raised platforms.
They constructed wells of several kinds, that is, lakes, ponds and so on so that men, elephants, horses and so on could drink [water]. The raised platforms were for the purpose of taking rest after drinking water.
