Text 2.99.6
सलक्ष्मणस्य रामस्य ददर्शाश्रमीयुषः।
कृतं वृक्षेष्वभिज्ञानं कुशचीरैः क्वचित्क्वचित्॥
salakṣmaṇasya rāmasya dadarśāśramam īyuṣaḥ
kṛtaṁ vṛkṣeṣv abhijñānaṁ kuśa-cīraiḥ kvacit kvacit
salakṣmaṇasya = and Lakṣmaṇa; rāmasya = for Rāma; dadarśa = He saw; āśramam = Their āśrama; īyuṣaḥ = to go to; kṛtam = tied; vṛkṣeṣu = on trees; abhijñānam = as signs to indicate the way; kuśa-cīraiḥ = kuśa grass and strips of bark; kvacit kvacit = here and there.
He saw kuśa grass and strips of bark tied on trees here and there as signs to indicate the way for Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa to go to Their āśrama.
These were signs to indicate the way for Rāma [and Lakṣmaṇa] to go to a water body from the āśrama and return.
