Chapter 99: Bharata Meets Rāma
Text 2.99.35
चन्दनेन महार्हेण यस्याङ्गमुपसेवितम्।
मलेन तस्याङ्गमिदं कथमार्यस्य सेव्यते॥
candanena mahārheṇa yasyāṅgam upasevitam
malena tasyāṅgam idaṁ katham āryasya sevyate
candanena = sandal paste; mahā-arheṇa = with very valuable; yasya = His; aṅgam = body; upasevitam = used to be smeared; malena = with dirt; tasya1 aṅgam = the body; idam katham = how is it that; āryasya = of noble Rāma; sevyate = is now covered.
How is it that the body of noble Rāma is now covered with dirt? His body used to be smeared with very valuable sandal paste!
