Chapter 99: Bharata Meets Rāma
Text 2.99.36
मन्निमित्तमिदं दुःखं प्राप्तो रामः सुखोचितः।
धिग्जीवितं नृशंसस्य मम लोकविगर्हितम्॥
man-nimittam idaṁ duḥkhaṁ prāpto rāmaḥ sukhocitaḥ
dhig jīvitaṁ nṛśaṁsasya mama loka-vigarhitam
mat-nimittam = because of Me; idam = this; duḥkham = sad state; prāptaḥ = has attained; rāmaḥ = Rāma; sukha-ucitaḥ = who was accustomed to comfort; dhik = fie upon it; jīvitam = life; nṛśaṁsasya = I am cruel; mama = My; loka-vigarhitam = is condemned all over the world.
Rāma who was accustomed to comfort has attained this sad state because of Me. I am cruel and My life is condemned all over the world. Fie upon it!
