तं तु वज्रमिवोत्सृष्टमाहवे दानवारिणा।
वाग्वज्रं भरतेनोक्तममनोज्ञं परंतपः॥
प्रगृह्य बाहू रामो वै पुष्पिताग्रो यथा द्रुमः।
वने परशुना कृत्तस्तथा भुवि पपात ह॥
taṁ tu vajram ivotsṛṣṭam āhave dānavāriṇā
vāg-vajraṁ bharatenoktam amanojñaṁ parantapaḥ
pragṛhya bāhū rāmo vai puṣpitāgro yathā drumaḥ
vane paraśunā kṛttas tathā bhuvi papāta ha
tam tu = that; vajram iva = and resembled the thunderbolt; utsṛṣṭam = thrown; āhave = in a battle; dānava-ariṇā = by Indra; vāk-vajram = thunderlike words; bharatena = by Bharata; uktam = spoken; amanaḥ-jñam = that were displeasing to the heart; parantapaḥ = the scorcher of His enemies; pragṛhya = lifted; bāhuḥ = His arms; rāmaḥ vai = Rāma; puṣpita-agraḥ = a flowering; yathā = like; drumaḥ = tree; vane = in the forest; paraśunā = by an axe; kṛttaḥ = cut; tathā = and; bhuvi = on the ground; papāta ha = then fell.
Upon hearing the thunderlike words spoken by Bharata that were displeasing to the heart and that resembled the thunderbolt thrown in a battle by Indra, the scorcher of His enemies Rāma lifted His arms and then fell on the ground like a flowering tree cut by an axe in the forest.
