Chapter 102: Rāma Performs Śrāddha for King Daśaratha
Text 2.102.37
हयैरन्ये गजैरन्ये रथैरन्ये स्वलङ्कृतैः।
सुकुमारास्तथैवान्ये पद्भिरेव नरा ययुः॥
hayair anye gajair anye rathair anye svalaṅkṛtaiḥ
sukumārās tathaivānye padbhir eva narā yayuḥ
hayaiḥ = on horses; anye = some went; gajaiḥ = on elephants; anye = some; rathaiḥ = chariots; anye = and some; su-alaṅkṛtaiḥ = on beautifully decorated; sukumārāḥ = among the very young men; tathā eva anye = other; padbhiḥ eva = on foot; narāḥ = men; yayuḥ = went.
Among the very young men, some went on horses, some on elephants and some on beautifully decorated chariots. Other men went on foot.
Those who were not very young men had no option but to go on foot to meet the distressed Rāma.
