Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 109: Rāma Refutes Jābāli
Text 2.109.4

कुलीनमकुलीनं वा वीरं पुरुषमानिनम्।
चारित्रमेव व्याख्याति शुचिं वा यदि वाशुचिम्॥

kulīnam akulīnaṁ vā vīraṁ puruṣa-māninam
cāritram eva vyākhyāti śuciṁ vā yadi vāśucim

kulīnam = whether he is from a noble family; akulīnam = not; = or; vīram = whether he is a hero; puruṣa-māninam = imagines himself to be manly; cāritram eva = one’s conduct; vyākhyāti = reveals himself; śucim = whether he is pure; = or; yadi = or; aśucim = impure.

One’s conduct reveals himself, whether he is from a noble family or not, whether he is a hero or imagines himself to be manly, whether he is pure or impure.

What is the evidence that one is of sinful conduct? His words are themselves evidence.
