यानप्रवरघोषश्च स्निग्धश्च हयनिस्वनः।
प्रमत्तगजनादश्च महांश्च रथनिःस्वनः।
नेदानीं श्रूयते पुर्यामस्यां रामे विवासिते॥
yāna-pravara-ghoṣaś ca snigdhaś ca haya-nisvanaḥ
pramatta-gaja-nādaś ca mahāṁś ca ratha-niḥsvanaḥ
nedānīṁ śrūyate puryām asyāṁ rāme vivāsite
yāna-pravara-ghoṣaḥ ca = the sounds of excellent vehicles; snigdhaḥ ca = the affectionate; haya-nisvanaḥ = sounds of horses; pramatta-gaja-nādaḥ ca = the sounds of excited elephants; mahān ca = the loud; ratha-niḥsvanaḥ = noises of chariots; na = are not; idānīm = now; śrūyate = heard; puryām = city; asyām = in this; rāme vivāsite = that Rāma has been banished.
The sounds of excellent vehicles, the affectionate sounds of horses, the sounds of excited elephants, the loud noises of chariots are not heard in this city now that Rāma has been banished.
