Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 3: Virādha Carries Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa
Text 3.3.12

धनुषा ज्यागुणवता सप्त बाणान्मुमोच ह।
रुक्मपुङ्खान्महावेगान्सुपर्णानिलतुल्यगान्॥

dhanuṣā jyā-guṇavatā sapta bāṇān mumoca ha
rukma-puṅkhān mahā-vegān suparṇānila-tulyagān

dhanuṣā = bow; jyā-guṇavatā = using His strung; sapta = seven; bāṇān = arrows; mumoca ha = He released; rukma-puṅkhān = with golden shafts; mahā-vegān = that flew very swiftly; suparṇa-anila-tulyagān = like an eagle or the wind.

Using His strung bow, He released seven arrows with golden shafts that flew very swiftly like an eagle or the wind.

This verse again specifies [the features of] His arrows.

GLOSS. [Dhanuṣā] jyā-guṇavatā indicates that Rāma’s bow had features praised on earth; it was stringed and soft [to touch].
