Chapter 20: Rāma Kills the Fourteen Rākṣasas
Text 3.20.22
ते भिन्नहृदया भूमौ छिन्नमूला इव द्रुमाः।
निपेतुः शोणितार्द्राङ्गा विकृता विगतासवः॥
te bhinna-hṛdayā bhūmau chinna-mūlā iva drumāḥ
nipetuḥ śoṇitārdrāṅgā vikṛtā vigatāsavaḥ
te = they; bhinna-hṛdayāḥ = their hearts having been pierced; bhūmau = on the ground; chinna-mūlāḥ = uprooted; iva = like; drumāḥ = trees; nipetuḥ = fell; śoṇita-ardra-aṅgāḥ = their bodies were wet with blood; vikṛtāḥ = they became deformed in appearance; vigata-asavaḥ = and their life-airs departed from them.
Their hearts having been pierced, they fell on the ground like uprooted trees. Their bodies were wet with blood. They became deformed in appearance and their life-airs departed from them.
