Chapter 21: Śūrpaṇakhā Impels Khara to Attack Rāma
Text 3.21.6
इत्येवमुक्ता दुर्धर्षा खरेण परिसान्त्विता।
विमृज्य नयने सास्रे खरं भ्रातरमब्रवीत्॥
ity evam uktā durdharṣā khareṇa parisāntvitā
vimṛjya nayane sāsre kharaṁ bhrātaram abravīt
iti = thus; evam = thus; uktā = when she was addressed; durdharṣā = the dreadful [rākṣasī]; khareṇa = by Khara; parisāntvitā = became pacified; vimṛjya = she wiped; nayane = eyes; sa-asre = her tear-filled; kharam = Khara; bhrātaram = to her brother; abravīt = and spoke as follows.
The dreadful [rākṣasī] thus became pacified by Khara. When she was addressed thus, she wiped her tear-filled eyes and spoke to her brother Khara as follows.
In the next verse Śūrpaṇakhā accepts what Khara has stated.
