Chapter 21: Śūrpaṇakhā Impels Khara to Attack Rāma
Text 3.21.17
शूरमानी न शूरस्त्वं मिथ्यारोपितविक्रमः।
मानुषौ यौ न शक्नोषि हन्तुं तौ रामलक्ष्मणौ॥
śūra-mānī na śūras tvaṁ mithyāropita-vikramaḥ
mānuṣau yau na śaknoṣi hantuṁ tau rāma-lakṣmaṇau
śūra-mānī = consider yourself a hero; na = not; śūraḥ = [but] you are a hero; tvam = you; mithyā-āropita-vikramaḥ = you falsely allege that you have prowess; mānuṣau = [are just] humans; yau = who; na śaknoṣi = you cannot; hantum = [even] kill; tau rāma-lakṣmaṇau = Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa.
You consider yourself a hero, [but] you are not a hero. You falsely allege that you have prowess. You cannot [even] kill Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa who [are just] humans!
“You falsely allege that you have prowess” means “You imagine that you have prowess.”
