Chapter 24: Lord Rāma Prepares to Fight With Khara’s Army
Text 3.24.19
ततो देवाः सगन्धर्वाः सिद्धाश्च सह चारणैः।
समेयुश्च महात्मानो युद्धदर्शनकाङ्क्षिणः॥
tato devāḥ sagandharvāḥ siddhāś ca saha cāraṇaiḥ
sameyuś ca mahātmāno yuddha-darśana-kāṅkṣiṇaḥ
tataḥ = then; devāḥ = the devas; sa-gandharvāḥ = gandharvas; siddhāḥ ca = siddhas; saha cāraṇaiḥ = cāraṇas; sameyuḥ = arrived; ca = and; mahā-ātmānaḥ = the great souls; yuddha-darśana-kāṅkṣiṇaḥ = who hankered to see the battle.
Then the devas, gandharvas, siddhas, cāraṇas and the great souls who hankered to see the battle arrived.
1 First they assembled, and then they came to Daṇḍakāraṇya to see Lord Rāmacandra’s destruction of fourteen thousand rākṣasas.
The previous chapter mentioned that they assembled. Here it is mentioned that they came.1 Cāraṇas are a species of devas.
