दुष्प्रेक्षः सोऽभवत्क्रुद्धो युगान्ताग्निरिव ज्वलन्।
तं दृष्ट्वा तेजसाविष्टं प्राद्रवन्वनदेवताः॥
duṣprekṣaḥ so ’bhavat kruddho yugāntāgnir iva jvalan
taṁ dṛṣṭvā tejasāviṣṭaṁ prādravan vana-devatāḥ
duṣprekṣaḥ = and difficult to spot; saḥ = He; abhavat = became; kruddhaḥ = angry; yuga-anta-agniḥ = the fire of universal destruction; iva = like; jvalan = blazing; tam = He; dṛṣṭvā = upon noticing that; tejasā = with [such] prowess; āviṣṭam = was endowed; prādravan = fled; vana-devatāḥ = the forest deities.
Blazing like the fire of universal destruction, He became angry and difficult to spot. The forest deities fled upon noticing that He was endowed with [such] prowess.1
1 “Endowed with [such] prowess” means “exhibiting His prowess to a small extent.” After all, what is killing 14,000 rākṣasas for Him who can create and destroy universes in less than a second?
