Chapter 25: Śrī Rāma’s Battle with Khara’s Army
Text 3.25.29
अवशिष्टाश्च ये तत्र विषण्णाश्च निशाचराः।
खरमेवाभ्यधावन्त शरणार्थं शरार्दिताः॥
avaśiṣṭāś ca ye tatra viṣaṇṇāś ca niśācarāḥ
kharam evābhyadhāvanta śaraṇārthaṁ śarārditāḥ
avaśiṣṭāḥ ca = survived; ye = who; tatra = in the army; viṣaṇṇāḥ = they became distressed; ca = and; niśācarāḥ = those night-rangers; kharam eva = Khara; abhyadhāvanta = rushed towards; śaraṇa-artham = for shelter; śara-arditāḥ = became tormented by Rāma’s arrows.
Those night-rangers who survived in the army became tormented by Rāma’s arrows. They became distressed and rushed towards Khara for shelter.
The remaining night-rangers rushed towards Khara for shelter, that is, they sought his protection [from the arrows of Lord Rāma].
