Chapter 25: Śrī Rāma’s Battle with Khara’s Army
Text 3.25.37
ततः शरसहस्राणि निर्ययुश्चापमण्डलात्।
सर्वा दश दिशो बाणैरावार्यन्त समागतैः॥
tataḥ śara-sahasrāṇi niryayuś cāpa-maṇḍalāt
sarvā daśa diśo bāṇair āvāryanta samāgataiḥ
tataḥ = then; śara-sahasrāṇi = thousands of arrows; niryayuḥ = flew; cāpa-maṇḍalāt = from the bow which had been bent into a circle; sarvāḥ = all; daśa = of the ten; diśaḥ = directions; bāṇaiḥ = with arrows; āvāryanta = were filled; samāgataiḥ = that came out [of the bow].
Then thousands of arrows flew from the bow which had been bent into a circle. All of the ten directions were filled with arrows that came out [of the bow].
1 In other words, this is a true description of events that took place then.
GLOSS. Sarvāḥ (“all”) indicates that this description is not figurative [for poetic effect].1
