Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 30: Khara Destroyed
Text 3.30.8
प्रवृद्धनिद्रे शयिते त्वयि राक्षसपांसने।
भविष्यन्त्यशरण्यानां शरण्या दण्डका इमे॥
pravṛddha-nidre śayite tvayi rākṣasa-pāṁsane
bhaviṣyanty aśaraṇyānāṁ śaraṇyā daṇḍakā ime
pravṛddha-nidre = to sleep for a long time; śayite = lie down; tvayi = when you; rākṣasa-pāṁsane = who are a disgrace to the rākṣasas; bhaviṣyanti = will become; aśaraṇyānām = those who have no shelter; śaraṇyāḥ = fit to shelter; daṇḍakāḥ = Daṇḍaka forests; ime = these.
When you,who are a disgrace to the rākṣasas, lie down to sleep for a long time, these Daṇḍaka forests will become fit to shelter those who have no shelter.1
1 Rāmāyaṇa-bhūṣaṇa: pravṛddha-nidre dīrgha-nidre.
[After Khara dies,] the Daṇḍaka forests would become fit to shelter, that is, happy residences for sages and others who have no shelter.
GLOSS. “[When you] lie down [to sleep for a long time]” means “[When you] are made to lie down [to sleep for a long time].”
