Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 30: Khara Destroyed
Text 3.30.12

नृशंस नीच क्षुद्रात्मन्नित्यं ब्राह्मण-कण्टक
यत्कृते शङ्कितैरग्नौ मुनिभिः पात्यते हविः॥

nṛśaṁsa nīca kṣudrātman nityaṁ brāhmaṇa-kaṇṭaka
yat-kṛte śaṅkitair agnau munibhiḥ pātyate haviḥ

nṛśaṁsa = O savage; nīca = you are low-class in behavior; kṣudra-ātman = your intelligence is meager; nityam = always; brāhmaṇa-kaṇṭaka = and you have been a thorn in the side of the brāhmaṇas; yat-kṛte śaṅkitaiḥ = in fear of you; agnau = into the sacred fire; munibhiḥ = sages; pātyate = have been offering; haviḥ = sacrificial oblations.

O savage, you are low-class in behavior, your intelligence is meager and you have always been a thorn in the side of the brāhmaṇas.  Sages have been offering sacrificial oblations into the sacred fire in fear of you!1

“You have been a thorn in the side of the brāhmaṇas” means “You have been an enemy to the brāhmaṇas.” Even while offering sacrificial oblations into the sacred fire, the sages have been in fear while thinking, “Will they kidnap us?”

1 The Supreme Personality of Godhead cannot tolerate a situation when His dear devotees perform the yuga-dharma in fear of the demoniac. When the Vaiṣṇavas experience such conditions of life, they should remember that Kṛṣṇa will certainly protect them: avaśya rakṣibe kṛṣṇa.
