Text 3.30.31

आनीतस्त्वमिमं देशमुपायेन महर्षिभिः।
एषां वधार्थं क्रूराणां रक्षसां पापकर्मणाम्॥

ānītas tvam imaṁ deśam upāyena maha-rṣibhiḥ
eṣāṁ vadhārthaṁ krūrāṇāṁ rakṣasāṁ pāpa-karmaṇām

ānītaḥ = were brought; tvam = You; imam = to this; deśam = place; upāyena = strategically; mahā-ṛṣibhiḥ = by great sages; eṣām = these; vadha-artham = to kill; krūrāṇām = cruel; rakṣasām = rākṣasas; pāpa-karmaṇām = who have performed sinful activities.

You were strategically brought to this place by great sages to kill these cruel rākṣasas who have performed sinful activities.

The strategy [employed by the great sages was to somehow bring Rāma there] on the pretext of showing Him their respective āśramas.1

1 On the pretext of having Lord Śrī Rāma come to see the āśramas of the various sages, they brought Him to Janasthāna so that He could kill Khara, Dūṣaṇa and their followers who disturbed the spiritual practices of those sages.
