Chapter 39: Mārīca Describes his Second Encounter with Lord Rāma

ऋषिमांसाशनः क्रूरस्त्रासयन्वनगोचरान्।
तथा रुधिरमत्तोऽहं विचरन्धर्मदूषकः॥
ṛṣi-māṁsāśanaḥ krūras trāsayan vana-gocarān
tathā rudhira-matto ’haṁ vicaran dharma-dūṣakaḥ
ṛṣi-māṁsa-aśanaḥ = ate the flesh of the sages; krūraḥ = cruelly; trāsayan = terrifying; vana-gocarān = the residents of the forest; tathā = and; rudhira-mattaḥ = intoxicated by their blood; aham = I; vicaran = I wandered; dharma-dūṣakaḥ = as a defiler of dharma.
I cruelly ate the flesh of the sages. Terrifying the residents of the forest and intoxicated by their blood, I wandered as a defiler of dharma.1
