Chapter 39: Mārīca Describes his Second Encounter with Lord Rāma
Text 3.39.10

jighāṁsur akṛta-prajñas taṁ prahāram anusmaran
tena muktās trayo bāṇāḥ śitāḥ śatru-nibarhaṇāḥ
vikṛṣya balavac cāpaṁ suparṇānila-tulyagāḥ

jighāṁsuḥ = I wanted to kill [Him]; akṛta-prajñaḥ = thoughtlessly; tam = the [previous]; prahāram = attack [by Him]; anusmaran = remembering; tena = He; muktāḥ = and released; trayaḥ = three; bāṇāḥ = arrows; śitāḥ = sharp; śatru-nibarhaṇāḥ = which could destroy the enemies; vikṛṣya = stretched; balavat = His strong; cāpam = bow; suparṇa-anila-tulyagāḥ = and which were as swift as Garuḍa and Vāyu.

Remembering the [previous] attack [by Him], I thoughtlessly wanted to kill [Him]. He stretched His strong bow and released three sharp arrows which could destroy the enemies and which were as swift as Garuḍa and Vāyu.

Akṛta-prajñaḥ (“thoughtlessly”) indicates that Mārīca’s intelligence was inactive [at that time].
