Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 52: Rāvaṇa Again Abducts Sītā
Text 3.52.13-14

tāṁ latām iva veṣṭantīm āliṅgantīṁ mahā-drumān
muñca muñceti bahuśaḥ pravadan rākṣasādhipaḥ

krośantīṁ rāma rāmeti rāmeṇa rahitāṁ vane
jīvitāntāya keśeṣu jagrāhāntaka-sannibhaḥ

tām = she; latām = a creeper; iva = like; veṣṭantīm = entwining them; āliṅgantīm = embraced [one after another]; mahā-drumān = huge trees; muñca muñca iti = leave [it], leave [it]; bahuśaḥ = several times; pravadan = told [her]; rākṣasa-adhipaḥ = the ruler of the rākṣasas; krośantīm = while she cried out; rāma rāma iti = Rāma, Rāma; rāmeṇa = of Rāma; rahitām = devoid; vane = in the forest; jīvita-antāya = just to have his [own] life taken away; keśeṣu = by the hair; jagrāha = he seized her; antaka-sannibhaḥ = resembling Yamarāja.

She embraced huge trees [one after another] like a creeper entwining them. The ruler of the rākṣasas told [her] several times, “Leave [it], leave [it],” while she cried out “Rāma, Rāma!” in the forest devoid of Rāma. Resembling Yamarāja, he seized her by the hair just to have his [own] life taken away.1

1 Usually Yamarāja comes [or sends his Yamadūtas to come] to make someone else die. Here, though Rāvaṇa resembled Yamarāja, he himself was going to die as a result of his act.
