नास्ति धर्मः कुतः सत्यं नार्जवं नानृशंसता।
यत्र रामस्य वैदेहीं भार्यां हरति रावणः।
इति सर्वाणि भूतानि गणशः पर्यदेवयन्।।
nāsti dharmaḥ kutaḥ satyaṁ nārjavaṁ nānṛśaṁsatā
yatra rāmasya vaidehīṁ bhāryāṁ harati rāvaṇaḥ
iti sarvāṇi bhūtāni gaṇaśaḥ paryadevayan
na asti = there is no; dharmaḥ = dharma; kutaḥ = how [then] can there be; satyam = truthfulness; na = there is no; ārjavam = honesty; na = and no; anṛśaṁsatā = mercy; yatra = because; rāmasya = Śrī Rāma’s; vaidehīm = Vaidehī; bhāryām = wife; harati = carries away; rāvaṇaḥ = Rāvaṇa; iti = so did; sarvāṇi = all; bhūtāni = the creatures [who witnessed this]; gaṇaśaḥ = in groups; paryadevayan = lamented.
All the creatures [who witnessed this] lamented in groups, “There is no dharma. How [then] can there be truthfulness? There is no honesty and no mercy because Rāvaṇa carries away Śrī Rāma’s wife Vaidehī.”1
