Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 52: Rāvaṇa Again Abducts Sītā
Text 3.52.49
स तामाकुलकेशान्तां विप्रमृष्टविशेषकाम्।
जहारात्मविनाशाय दशग्रीवो मनस्विनीम्॥
sa tām ākula-keśāntāṁ vipramṛṣṭa-viśeṣakām
jahārātma-vināśāya daśa-grīvo manasvinīm
saḥ = the; tām = that; ākula-keśa-antām = the tips of her hair were disheveled; vipramṛṣṭa-viśeṣakām = and her tilaka had been smudged 2; jahāra = carried away; ātma-vināśāya = just to destroy himself; daśa-grīvaḥ = ten-headed Rāvaṇa; manasvinām = that strong minded lady.
The tips of her hair were disheveled and her tilaka had been smudged. The ten-headed Rāvaṇa carried away that strong-minded lady just to destroy himself.1
1 “Just to destroy himself” is an idiomatic way of saying “as an unavoidable consequence of which he will be destroyed.”
Sītā-devī was strong-minded, that is, chaste to her husband (pati-vratā).
