तौ लोहितस्य प्रियदर्शनस्य सदोचितावुत्तमचन्दनस्य।
वृत्तौ स्तनौ शोणितपङ्कदिग्धौ नूनं प्रियाया मम नाभिभातः॥
tau lohitasya priya-darśanasya
sadocitāv uttama-candanasya
vṛttau stanau śoṇita-paṅka-digdhau
nūnaṁ priyāyā mama nābhibhātaḥ
tau = they; lohitasya = known as lohita 1; priya-darśanasya = and beautiful; sadā = always; ucitau = that were fit; uttama-candanasya = to be smeared with the excellent sandalwood pulp; vṛttau = round; stanau = breasts; śoṇita-paṅka-digdhau = are [now] defiled with blood and mud; nūnam = certainly; priyāyāḥ = beloved’s; mama = My; na abhibhātaḥ = I wouldn’t see.
I wouldn’t see My beloved’s round breasts that were always fit to be smeared with the excellent and beautiful sandalwood pulp known as lohita. They are [now] certainly defiled with blood and mud.
1 Rāmāyaṇa-bhūṣaṇa: mama nābhipāta iti pāṭhāntare evam api mama deha-pāto na jāyata ity arthaḥ.
“They are [now] certainly defiled with blood and mud” because Rāmacandra thinks that they would have been cut off by some rākṣasa before he eats her up.
In some manuscripts, abhipātaḥ appears instead of abhibhātaḥ which indicates that Lord Rāma laments that He is still alive.1
