Chapter 70: The Fall of Kabandha
Text 3.70.13
अयमिक्ष्वाकुदायादो रामो नाम जनैः श्रुतः।
अस्यैवावरजं विद्धि भ्रातरं मां च लक्ष्मणम्॥
ayam ikṣvāku-dāyādo rāmo nāma janaiḥ śrutaḥ
asyaivāvarajaṁ viddhi bhrātaraṁ māṁ ca lakṣmaṇam
ayam = this; ikṣvāku-dāyādaḥ = is the legitimate heir of the Ikṣvāku [dynasty]; rāmaḥ = Rāma; nāma = by the name; janaiḥ = to the people; śrutaḥ = He is known; asya eva = to be His; avarajam = younger; viddhi = know; bhrātaram = brother; mām ca = Me; lakṣmaṇam = Lakṣmaṇa.
This is the legitimate heir of the Ikṣvāku [dynasty]. He is known to the people by the name Rāma. Know Me to be His younger brother Lakṣmaṇa.
“The legitimate heir of the Ikṣvāku [dynasty]” means “the son of Daśaratha” 2.
