Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 72: Kabandha Tells Rāma About Sugrīva
Text 3.72.12
ऋश्यमूके गिरिवरे पम्पापर्यन्तशोभिते।
निवसत्यात्मवान्वीरश्चतुर्भिः सह वानरैः॥
ṛśyamūke giri-vare pampā-paryanta-śobhite
nivasaty ātmavān vīraś caturbhiḥ saha vānaraiḥ
ṛśyamūke = Ṛśyamūka; giri-vare = in the excellent mountain; pampā-paryanta-śobhite = that beautifies the land bordering Pampā; nivasati = resides; ātmavān = that intelligent; vīraḥ = hero; caturbhiḥ = four; saha = with; vānaraiḥ = monkeys.
That intelligent hero resides with four monkeys in the excellent mountain Ṛśyamūka that beautifies the land bordering Pampā.
Because Sugrīva has qualities like Rāmacandra and is also in a state of extreme adversity, the latter should make friends with the former. This is stated in the next verse.
