O Rāghava, the swans, frogs, cranes and ospreys there coo with lovely sounds while they move about in the waters of Pampā. [Those] beautiful [birds] are not frightened by seeing humans—they have never experienced slaughter. O Rāma, O descendant of Raghu, feed those birds that are as plumpy as lumps of ghee as well as the excellent and well-known rohita, vakratuṇḍa and naḍamīna fishes in the [waters of] Pampā the [foodstuffs that] Lakṣmaṇa gives You with devotion.1 The skin and other coverings [of those foodstuffs] should be removed using arrows, and they should be roasted with iron, moistened and made free from thorns.2
